Why be Funny?

This semester I’m working with three other people to create a magazine that’s due by the end of March. This means thinking of a topic, magazine name, writing articles, taking photos, creating advertisements and designing the layout.

Once we have created a 20-25 page magazine, we then enter it into a magazine fair to be judged by professionals in the industry. Needless to say this is a crazy amount of work and is extremely stressful to complete because of all the tight deadlines.

My group is creating a magazine about humour but with a lifestyle twist, so this week I am working on a feature article about how humour affects relationships.

As I’ve been interviewing people and listening to their stories, I’ve realized how important humour really is. I don’t mean that I’ve never thought about humour; I’ve just never taken the time to think about how many ways it can affect someone’s life and the people around them.

  • Humour is a great way to lighten up arguments or sensitive situations.
  • Sharing the same sense of humour can create bonds between people even if they have little in common.
  • Humour can help someone feel comfortable enough to be themselves.
  • Generates a positive outlook into stressful circumstances.

Humour is an important aspect in everyone’s life and without it, life wouldn’t be the same.
