Summer Holidays

This summer has been FANTASTIC! When I ended my first year of CreComm in May I was exhausted and was dreading to start two spring/summer courses at the University of Winnipeg. Turns out it wasn't so bad. Of course there were times when I would spend all day doing homework/studying for exams while it was gorgeous and sunny outside, but I made up for it by doing my homework on the patio. In my free time I have also been working on my IPP (year-end project for 2014) by filming with Manitoba Mutts about once a week. I would rather spend time working on it throughout the summer rather than when I’m busy on a full course load this year. I actually look forward to filming because it is so much fun so it doesn't even seem like I’m doing homework during the summer.

While filming with Manitoba Mutts all summer I was constantly around adorable mutts and I had a feeling this would happen and I resisted it as much as possible, but I finally gave in…my boyfriend and I adopted! A black coloured Newfoundland, Shepherd, and Labrador cross. He’s a sweet, handsome guy that we named Vader. (he’s a large breed and breaths super loud) He fit right into his new home right away and my dog Freya absolutely loves him! They've become best friends and we couldn't be happier.

A part from school, my boyfriend and I worked on a couple projects together. He’s a carpenter so I helped him build a couple fences to gain a few extra bucks. He taught me a lot! I learned how to use an electric screwdriver and became an excellent leveler. It was great because I discovered that we work great as a team. We also built a few projects of our own like an indoor desk for my room and a deck for the backyard.

Now not ALL my summer was hard work, I had tons of fun too! I went to Albert beach as much as I could. My boyfriend’s parents live out there permanently and are only a ten minute walk away from the lake so it works out great. We swam, sat in the sun, searched for sea shells, walked through the trails, and rode his trike! (I know so cool right) I usually bring my dog Freya out there with me and she swims in the lake with us and with his parent’s dog Bowser. Now that we have Vader he’s coming with us the next time we go out.

In the city I reunited with all of my friends! And I say reunite because during the school year we are all so busy that it’s super hard to match up all of our schedules to see each other. We’ve had bonfires, gone rollerblading, swimming, and road trips to Rushing River. But most importantly we were able to catch up with each other and had time to relax and have fun.

Now school starts up next Monday and it’s a bittersweet feeling. My University classes ended on August 2nd so I’ve had a few weeks of holidays and I feel rejuvenated once again. I’ve had time to do the things I love to do that I didn’t have time to do during the school year. (Things like working out regularly again and having time to sit back to read a good book) But at the same time I’m not quite used to having so much free time so it’ll be good to have a routine again. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone back at school and learning new skills that will help me once I graduate (which I can’t believe is only a year away!) I feel replenished and ready for this upcoming and final year of school!
