Schoolhouse Rock! Bob Dorough performs at Red River College
(Winnipeg, MB-Oct.31, 2012)- Red River College will be hosting a solo performance by Bob Dorough on Friday Nov. 9, 2012.
“This is the first concert to ever take place in the lecture theatre,” says Red River College President Stephanie Forsyth. “We couldn’t have asked for a better musician to kick-off our events!”
Bob Dorough will be performing at the Great-West Life Lecture Theatre at The Roblin Centre at the Exchange District Campus. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available at Ticketmaster. Tickets cost $5 for senior citizens, $6 for adults and $4 for students.
Bob Dorough is an 89-year-old retired music professor at East Stroudburg University who still loves to share his love for music. Dorough was the first singer to appear on a Miles Davis album and is best known as one of the key voices on Schoolhouse Rock! This long-running ABC television series used music and animation to teach kids valuable skills such as math, grammar, science, economics, politics and American history.
Red River College is Manitoba’s largest applied learning institute with eight campuses in the province. It has more than 200 full-time and part-time programs that are taught by instructors with industrial expertise. Red River College also has a 95 per cent graduate employment rate.

Hi Shane Minkin,
Kenton Larsen is giving you four free tickets to CreCommedy Night at Rumor's Restaurant & Comedy Club! This event will take place on Monday, November 5 and will be a great way for your readers to learn about local talents here in Winnipeg.
Kenton is a Creative Communications instructor at Red River College and this show features his comedy writing class! This will be his student’s first time preforming and they will each have two minutes to light-up the stage by using stand-up comedy.
Two of Kenton’s former CreComm comedy writing students will be running the event. Dan Verville is headlining, while Cara Lytwyn will be hosting the show. Both of which now have successful stand-up careers in the entertainment industry.
Both Dan and Cara will be available after the show to answer any questions that you may have.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will start at 8 p.m.! I hope to see you there!
Cheers,
Samara Fun

Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue Marketing
I volunteered for five years by helping The Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue (MMDR) with various online marketing campaigns. To create these promotional posts, I designed the graphics and pieced together information to write the descriptions.
Super Troopers: The Super Troopers are the dogs and cats that are in urgent care. I promoted them by sharing their stories as quickly as possible to the MMDR Facebook page and website. The goal was to give live updates on the progress of each Super Trooper. I also kept track of the Super Trooper donations to ensure all of their medical bills were covered. Once they recovered and found their forever homes, I shared their Super Trooper Alumni stories as well. These are also displayed on the Facebook page and website.
To supplement the consistent Super Trooper updates, I also promoted various campaigns to raise extra donations. I did this by writing descriptions for the 12 Days of Super Troopers and put together and created the graphic for the Top 10 Items Mutts Needs For Christmas.
92.1 CITI-FM: I spoke on behalf of MMDR to promote the Super Troopers on the Wheeler in the Morning show.
ResQwalk: I promoted this app by posting to the main MMDR Facebook page at least once a month. Since the alumni Facebook group consists of dog owners who frequently go for walks, I promoted this app at least three times a month within their group. This reminded people to raise donations for MMDR by opening their apps each time they went for a walk.
BarkBox: I promoted BarkBox by posting on the MMDR Facebook page and in their alumni Facebook group at least once a month with supplementary posts throughout. All of the posts feature a code which gives people discounts when ordering their subscription box, while a portion of their proceeds are donated to MMDR.
Adoption fairs: Leading up to the adoption fairs, I promoted the event by posting information on the MMDR Facebook page as a save-the-date reminder. Once we came closer to the event, I'd start to post more frequently to build excitement.
Promotional videos: I created four promotional videos for Manitoba Mutts. Each video gives insights into certain topics of the organization including adoption, fostering, volunteering, as well as a meeting the founders. This is a Prezi presentation that showcases the video outcomes.
