Local:

Manitoba is funding $10 million to help upgrade another 34 recreation sites in Winnipeg. These recreation sites include play structures, parks and athletic fields splash pads.

Since 2010, the province has already given $10 million to community projects. 31 have been completed while the remaining six will be finished by 2013. The upcoming upgrades will be announced later this spring.

Canada:

Canada's largest engineering company called SNC-Lavalin, admits to participating in illegal political financing in Quebec.

SNC-Lavalin’s vice-president says executives got company bonuses for making donations. He says the amount of the bonuses were greater than the donation amount.

It is illegal for companies to make political donations, and it's also illegal to reimburse people for their donations, in Quebec.

On the witness stand, SNC-Lavalin’s vice-president says that he was aware that it was illegal to offer such refunds.

He says it's the political parties that came to solicit the money and that the parties would even set fundraising targets for his company.

It's still unclear whether the company engaged in such practices throughout Canada or just at the federal level.

World:

A teacher at a Northern California preschool is accused of putting sleeping pills into toddlers' sippy cups

The 59-year-old Debbie Gratz, was arrested Friday after a colleague at the Morgan Hill Kiddie Academy saw her put an unknown substance into the children's cups.

She has been released from custody after being charged with child endangerment, but is scheduled to appear in court again later this month.

School officials say Gratz acknowledged putting the over-the-counter sleeping aid called "Sominex" into the kids' drinks.

None of the children drank from the cups the day the incident was reported.

Fun: 

Canada's Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir have fallen short in their quest for a second world ice dance title.

Coming into Saturday’s World Figure Skating Championships with a three-point deficit and was too much for the pair to make up.

Virtue and Moire have come in second place after first place winner’s Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the U.S.

This is likely the final world championship appearance for Virtue and Moir, who are expected to cap their career at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Fun:

Gwyneth Paltrow almost died during her third pregnancy.

The 40-year-old actress was expecting a third child with husband Chris Martin, the frontman for Coldplay.

She has two children; Apple who is eight and Moses who is six.

Paltrow says her own life was in danger as a result of complications and she lost the baby.

Paltrow relies on her husband's parenting skills for support.

She says that having such a good man takes a lot of weight off because they make all the decisions together.

Gwyneth Paltrow is still considering trying again for a third child.
